ClIENT STORIES - divorce mediation

Angela and Bill have been married for 10 years. Their marriage is a second marriage for both of them, and they do not have any children together. They have come to the decision to divorce and know from experience that the divorce process can be costly and time-consuming. They also know that all they really want and need to do is divide their marital property. They both agree that they have accumulated marital assets and that each of them brought some separate property to the marriage. The only unresolved issue they have is whether Bill should be paid back all or a portion of the $450,000.00 down payment that he made on their house.

Carolyn and John have been married for 16 years. They have two children – a son aged 10 and a daughter aged 12. Both Carolyn and John are trained as actuaries and met at their workplace after college. Both of their children have dyslexia, and Carolyn and John decided to send both children to a private school specializing in educational support for dyslexic learners.  Because this school was 30 miles from their home, they moved to a neighborhood close to the school. Although they did not buy the most expensive house in the neighborhood, their new house is considerably more expensive than their former suburban home. The children now attend a different local private school and are in fifth and seventh grades.
